About Ken Cynar

For more than thirty years, Ken Cynar has served in private industry and government --communicating concepts and ideas focused at moving the needle of public thought, opinion and perception. He has broad based experience in such areas as public safety, crisis response, health care, commercial, industrial and economic development, public policy initiatives, public transportation, environmental management, emergency response and crisis and issues management.

Prior to becoming the principal of KJC Public Relations Ltd. and Agate Associates, he served in private industry as director of media relations for a Washington based public relations firm and in government as a press secretary and director of communications for the Nassau County (Long Island) Executive.  Over the years, he held a series of government positions specializing in public and media relations, including assistant to the commissioner of the Nassau County Police Department and director of Taxpayer Information for the Nassau County Board of Assessors.

A veteran communicator, Cynar held the position of Special Assistant to the County Executive, functioning as a deputy county executive, supervising eighteen county departments and issue areas and helping implement a variety of new and innovative programs.  In this post Cynar organized and chaired the County’s Emergency Management Task Force and coordinated the 1998 Goodwill Games held in Nassau.

A graduate of Hofstra University, he holds both a B.A. and M.A. and has received additional training from the Lincoln Institute of Land Management at Harvard University and the Federal Emergency Management Training Institute.
